Fully
Online Undergraduate Academic Certificate in Women's Studies
The
Women's Studies Fully Online Certificate Program provides
an opportunity for students to integrate scholarship about
gender from a variety of disciplines into a coherent program
of study. This includes six required courses central to
an understanding of women in a social and historical context.
The courses provide a basic grounding in Women's Studies
that should be useful in many other courses and as excellent
preparation for graduate study and for professional development.
Eligibility:
The certificate may be awarded to both degree and non-degree
seeking students holding any bachelor's degree. All students
(undergraduate, graduate, professional, special) are eligible
to earn the Women's Studies Certificate.
Requirements:
Students who wish to concentrate in Women's Studies but not
major, may obtain a fully online certificate and must complete
a total of 18 credit hours (six courses of 3 credit
hours each) of undergraduate course work from the following
requirements:
1) WST
3015 Introduction to Women's Studies
2) ECO 3933 Women, Men and Work in The USA
3) ECS 3021 Women Culture and Economic Development
4) MAN 4102 Managing Diversity
5) REL 3171 Sex and Religion
6) SOP 3742 Psychology of Women
7) SOP 4774: Female Sexuality
How
To Enroll:
Students
who are earning a fully online certifcate online can apply
through the Women's Studies Center. Students in the fully
online program will be able to request an exemption from the
usual certificate requirements, with the permission of the
director. To enroll in the program or for more information
and/or to seek academic advising on the Women's Studies major
and certificate, contact Dr. Laurie Shrage, Director at (305)348-2408

How
to Apply to FIU for a Post-baccalaureate Undergraduate Certificate:
Students
who are new to FIU and who wish to earn a post-baccalaureate
undergraduate certificate should:
(1) apply to FIU as a non-degree seeking student at: http://www.fiu.edu/orgs/register/special.htm
and, once admitted,
(2) fill out the application for the undergraduate certificate
and return it to Women's Studies. Post-baccalaureate certificate
earners may apply a maximum of 3 courses
(nine credits) earned at other universities or colleges to
the undergraduate certificate.
