Investigations Unit The investigations unit is an important function of the University Police Department because of the role that the investigators play within the university community. The investigators on many occasions are involved in very sensitive situations. They are involved in a variety of calls for service (including emergency calls, follow up on case reports, crime patterns, crime solving) throughout the university community. Investigations personnel, by the nature of their work, are uniquely positioned to have maximum impact upon the community. As a result of their investigative techniques, they reduce the opportunity for criminal activity within the community and enhance the community’s sense of safety and security. Through intelligence gathering functions, they identify and reduce opportunities for disorder within the community.
