Prospective BA students should prepare one brief (1-2) minute contemporary monologue.

  • Prospective Design and Management students can present a portfolio and/or other material when meeting with the appropriate faculty.

  • All incoming freshman must take the SAT or ACT test ASAP, and bring those when meeting with the departmental advisor.

  • All transfer students must have transcripts from all previous post-secondary schools, and bring those when meeting with the departmental advisor.

  • Any incoming student interested in scholarships will need to complete a theatre scholarship application and provide the Theatre Department with a resumé outlining their theatre activities, letters of recommendation, and/or other supporting documentation.

Guidelines for Auditioning

ˇ         Prepare your audition material the same way you would prepare for a scene in a play.

ˇ         When you come into the audition room introduce yourself and your monologues. However, do not "explain" your pieces -- let your acting speak for you.

ˇ         Your audition should not only demonstrate your ability to play an objective, use your voice and body effectively, respond to direction, and use your imagination. In addition, the department is looking for intelligent, well-rounded, responsible people whom they can count on.

ˇ         Do not dress in costume. Choose clothing that is comfortable, attractive, and that will not be a hindrance in performing the pieces. Avoid hairstyles that hide your face as well as distracting jewelry and clothing.

ˇ         With the possible exception of something you might normally have with you, i.e., glasses or jewelry, do not use props.

ˇ         Every audition is an opportunity to perform -- enjoy yourself!
