Text: Algebra and Trigonometry,
8th Ed, by Sullivan (Prentice
Hall)
This course covers trigonometric functions and their graphs, inverse
trigonometric functions, identities and conditional equations, solving
right and oblique triangles, polar graphs, vectors, complex numbers,
DeMoivre’s Theorem, and conic sections.
The pre-requisite to the
course is College Algebra with a grade of C or higher. It is intended
for science majors whose next course is Calculus I.
Scientific Calculator Required…..(Graphing Calculator prohibited)
Attendance is taken and
expected. I expected all students to get to class on time. Habitually
tardy students will be refused late admittance. Please turn off beepers
and cell phone. Students are expected to behave appropriately and obey
the rules of conduct at FIU (see student handbook).
Grading: There will be 4 tests
and a required cumulative Final Exam (to be given on the date scheduled
by the registrar) Each shall be 100 points for a possible grade
total of 500 points. There are NO MAKE-UP exams. If you miss a test
with an instructor excused absence, I will count the final exam as two
grades. I reserve the right to add points to students who display
outstanding class participation. (Grades will not be curved nor dropped)
