Premedical Curricula for Medical, Dental, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, and Veterinary Schools

Students interested in entering the health professions should contact a premedical advisor to receive information on premedical education, application procedures and admission tests. Most premedical students major in biology or chemistry, but ANY major is acceptable, as long as students complete this sequence of courses:

1.      CHM 1045 & 1045L, 1046 & 1046L (General Chemistry I and II) ,CHM 2210 & 2210L, 2211 & 2211L (Organic Chemistry I and II)

2.      BSC 1010 & 1010L, 1011 & 1011L (General Biology I and II)

3.      MAC 2311 & 2312 (Calculus I and II) Statistics courses are acceptable for some programs

4.      PHY 2053 & 2048L, 2054 & 2049L (Physics w/o Calculus) or PHY 2048 +L & 2049 +L (w/Calculus)

5.      Students must also check for additional prerequisites for their programs/professional schools

These courses should be taken in the correct sequence and the following is suggested. However, it is necessary to meet with an advisor to plan the best course of study for each individual student.

2.      Take Medical School Admission Test (MCAT) in Spring. By taking the MCAT in Spring, you will have another opportunity, if necessary, to re-take the test again in late summer or early Fall and still apply for next year's class. Your chances of admission are increased if you complete your application early.

3.      The same holds for the Dental Admission Test (DAT), the Optometry Admission Test (OAT) or the PCAT.

4.      Veterinary Schools and Physician Assisstant programs require the Graduate Record Examination
