Mark Rosenberg, Provost and Professor  (Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh); Comparative Politics, Latin America. 

Mark B. Rosenberg is Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Florida International University.  From February - July 1999, he served as FIU's Acting President.

Dr. Rosenberg joined the faculty of FIU in 1976.  Since then, he has held leadership positions as founding Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Center, as founding Dean of the College of Urban and Public Affairs, and as Vice Provost for International Studies.   Dr. Rosenberg is a 1971 graduate of Miami University (Oxford), where he was Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.  He received his Ph.D. in political science and a graduate certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from the University of Pittsburgh in April 1976.

He has authored or co-edited six books and some thirty scholarly articles on the region, including Poverty or Development: Global Restructuring and Regional Transformations in the US South and the Mexican South (Routledge, 2000).  He is presently co-authoring a book on Central America after the Cold War for a Harvard University project on Latin America.  He has testified numerous times before committees of the US Congress and has served as a consultant to the US Department of State, and the US Agency for International Development.  He co-chaired a review committee of peers on US Central America policy for the US General Accounting Office.  He is a Presidential appointee to the US Customs District Export Council.

Dr. Rosenberg has served on the board of editors of Latin Trade, and Florida Trend.  He is a member of the selection board of the Maria Moors Cabot Prize for Journalism based at Columbia University.  He was recently named to the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations, the US' premier think tank on global affairs.

In Florida, Dr. Rosenberg has served as an adviser to the state legislature and executive branch of the Government of Florida.  Governor Lawton Chiles appointed him to the statewide Summit of the Americas Steering Committee in 1994.  Dr. Rosenberg represents FIU on the Executive Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Florida's largest metropolitan business association.  At the Chamber, Rosenberg served from 1992-94 as Executive Committee Vice Chair for International Economic Development and was founding Vice Chair for International Professional Services.  Dr. Rosenberg has served as a consultant and guest speaker with business chambers and economic development agencies throughout Florida, including Pensacola, Jacksonville, Naples/Fort Myers and Orlando.
