Astrid Arrarás, Assistant Professor (Ph.D., Princeton University); Latin American Politics.
Professor Arrará 's dissertation was entitled Armed Struggle, Political Learning and Participation in Democracy: The case of the Tupamaros of Uruguay. Professor Arraras is currently working on transforming the dissertation into a book manuscript. In addition, she is writing several articles on human rights issues, peace negotiations in Colombia, and the elections in the Southern Cone. After finishing the manuscript, she will study the transitions from armed struggle to electoral politics by former guerrilla groups in Colombia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Uruguay. At FIU, she teaches courses on democratization, Latin American politics, Central American politics, and political development.
