Election to Phi Beta Kappa is by invitation, not application. Students graduating in the Fall or Spring will be considered automatically during their final semester of study, provided that they have applied for graduation before the university deadline. Students graduating in the Summer will be considered during the following Fall semester. Only students in the College of Arts and Sciences are eligible.
Election is primarily on the basis of scholarly achievement in the liberal arts, broad cultural interests, and good character. The number of undergraduates elected will not exceed ten percent of those receiving bachelor’s degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Transfer students should be aware that, to be considered for Phi Beta Kappa, they are required to have completed a minimum of 45 FIU credit hours prior to their semester of graduation.
