Program Overview
It is extremely important that you thoroughly read the information listed below as you should find the answers to many of your questions. If after reading this webpage you still have concerns please contact the orientation office.
Day One: You will have the opportunity to take a campus tour, begin the advising process, learn about Campus Life, Freshman Interest Groups (FIG), and meet your Peer Advisor.
Math placement is recommended, if you are considering any major that requires higher levels of mathematics. If you have completed a calculus course in high school, or have a math SAT score of 600 or higher or a math ACT of 26 or higher, you have the opportunity to determine your initial math course placement through testing.
To schedule placement exams, contact the University Testing Center, Monday through Friday, between 8:30am and 4:30pm for available dates and times. Day Two: You will receive information about your College/School in which your major is housedand be allowed time for selecting classes with your Academic Advisor. In order to register for classes, you must meet with an Advisor; therefore this two-day orientation program is mandatory for all Freshmen.
Orientation Fees
There is a $70 fee for the student to attend orientation. The guest fee is $50. Your orientation fee is used to cover the costs of implementing the FIU orientation program. The fees cover the use of facilities, student and family member orientation publications, and meals for students and family members. Without your fee, the orientation program would not be possible.
