Job Summary
The College of Architecture + the Arts at Florida International University is seeking a highly-motivated individual with demonstrated success in leadership, arts administration, and fundraising to serve as Director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum.
The Director will provide leadership, vision, and long-range planning for the Museum’s growth, programmatic excellence, and financial stability. The Director’s responsibilities include establishing and managing the museum’s program of activities; maintaining the highest professional standards in the work of the Museum and its staff; representing the Museum to its constituencies in the University and the community; and collaborating with a development officer to raise funds for operating, programming, exhibitions, and endowment. Working with a staff of museum professionals, the Director will lead the Museum through critical changes as the Museum transitions into a new facility to open in 2008. The Director reports directly to the Dean of the College of Architecture + the Arts.
Candidates must have a distinguished record of sustained professional achievement with at least 10 years experience as a leader and fundraiser in an art museum; an advanced degree in art history (Ph.D. desired) and/or equivalent experience required. The individual must understand curatorial practices, have experience in exhibition development, and the training and experience to promote and advance excellent scholarship. The Director must understand and be able to address the needs of the academic community and the general public.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated proven leadership in an art museum, budget management and strategic planning abilities; effective communication skills; a successful record of promoting diversity; and extensive experience in securing external funds working with development personnel. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.

Desired Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience. - Conduct educational tours of the FIU sculpture park and Frost Art Museum exhibitions to diverse audiences throughout Miami-Dade County

- Collect and archive all press clippings
- Assist with writing, distributing and follow-up calls for calendar listings
- Research online calendar and cultural listing sites
- Develop, assemble and distribute press kits
- Actively assist in the organization of the annual District 11 Scholastic Exhibition
- Assist with events planning and coordination
- Assist with writing and editing articles for the museum’s newsletter
- Update media lists

- Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following fields: public relations, communications, marketing, art history, and art administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Museum Studies Internships
The Museum Studies Certificate Program at FIU requires students to complete an internship in a museum. The internship is intended to provide the student with practical experience in museum work and to learn to function as a professional within an institutional framework. The intern is expected to complete a project or a specified portion of a major project during the internship. A three hour internship requires 10 hours of work per week during one full academic term; 20 hours of work per week during a similar period of time are required for six credits. Summer term internships span the two summer sessions. Students must register for the internship course in order to receive credits. The Frost Art Museum offers internships for FIU Museum Studies Certificate Program in Registration and Curatorial departments. Please send cover letter and resume to:
