Training.
Volunteer consultants provide information and techniques that build
local capacity of those who work with the special-needs children, e.g.,
special education, reading, writing, speech and language, mathematics, early
learning, discipline/peer mediation, cooperative learning, and technology
via: On-site seminars, workshops, certification training, clinics,
apprenticeship, classroom demonstrations
Clinical
Educators. Educators across Abaco are pursuing certification to give
diagnostic-prescriptive test batteries and learn remedial/intervention
techniques. As they are verified, they will provide direct assessment
service to Abaco's children. This clinical aspect includes hearing
and vision screenings.
These clinical educators come from schools and settlements in all parts of Abaco. They assess all aspects of reading: Physical Interference, Potential, Reading (Comprehension and Word Recognition), Emergent Literacy, and Study Skills. Testing and Reports are free, and Tutoring is provided at low cost.
