1.    How do I sign up for my free FIU E-mail account?

All registered FIU students are automatically furnished an FIU-E-mail
account. Click here to look up your FIU E-mail address and initial password.

2.    Where do I go to obtain help with an academic problem?

You should first contact your advisor or graduate program director so that you are directed to  the appropriate student service office to obtain help.  You may also visit the Learning Center,  located on the University Park at PC 247, or the Biscayne Bay Campus at ACI 160.  For more  information, please visit the Learning Center’s web site.

3.    What kind of financial aid is available to graduate students?

You must complete the FAFSA form if you wish to obtain financial assistance.  This form is  located on-line or it can be obtained at the Office of Financial Aid .  Most financial assistance to  graduate students is need-based and depends on your financial need as indicated on the FAFSA  form.  Financial aid available to graduate students includes the Graduate Fee Grant, $1000.00  and the Stafford Loan.  Other financial assistance includes being employed as a graduate  assistant, where a student usually receives a tuition waiver, in addition to a stipend.  You should  consult with the Office of Financial Aid and the department of your interest to find out more about its rules on awarding financial assistance.

4.    How many courses must I be registered for in order to receive financial aid?

For graduate students:    In order to qualify for financial aid you must be enrolled for at least 9 semester hours during the fall and spring semesters and 6 hours during the summer semester.

5.    How can I become involved with graduate student issues?

To find out more about how you can become involved with student government you should contact the Graduate Student Association (GSA).  This organization works with the individual academic interest groups on campus and can put you directly in touch with the group of you interest.  You can learn more about GSA by going to http://www.fiu.edu/~gsa/ or call 348-4112.

6.    Is there transportation available for students between campuses?

The University offers shuttle transportation services between the University Park and Biscayne Bay Campuses.  See shuttle schedule.  Public bus services are also offered between UP and Biscayne Bay and the Engineering Center.

7.    Do I need a parking permit to park on campus?

FIU students pay a transportation fee as part of their course registration.  You MUST obtain  a parking decal from Parking & Traffic Department located at the Garage One (UP Campus) and WUC 121 at the Biscayne Bay Campus to park on campus.

8.    Where do I go on campus if I feel sick?

The University has Health Care & Wellness Centers on both the Biscayne Bay and University  Park Campuses.  The Wellness Center on UP is located just west of Public Safety and east of the  Labor Center.  At the Biscayne Bay campus, the Wellness Center is located west of the Library  and south of University Housing.  They frequently hold preventive campaigns that include health education,  vaccinations, and screening tests.  For more information, please contact the Wellness Center on your respective campus, or visit their web site at .
