Art
Museum
The Art Museum at Florida
International University (TAM/FIU) started in 1977 as a student
gallery but has since grown to achieve American Association
Museum (AAM) accreditation (1999) and broad recognition for
its growing collection of Latino and 20th century American
Art, innovative exhibitions, outstanding lecture series, and
unparalleled programs serving South Florida's diverse audiences.
The central role TAM has established for itself in the cultural
life of both campus and community, derives from the museum's
commitment to present free and accessible program to the broadest
audience, and results in a high level of community trust and
support.
As an academic
unit of a public university, TAM enthusiastically embraces
a dual commitment to fulfill the educational needs of both
its family and the general public. TAM's educational programs,
therefore, are designed to increase each participant's knowledge
of art and to honor its mission to serve people of all ages,
means, and backgrounds.

The
Wolfsonian-Florida International University
Located at 1001 Washington
Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida, The Wolfsonian is a museum that
promotes the collection, preservation, and interpretation
of art and design from the period 1885-1945. Through exhibitions
and public programs, The Wolfsonian investigates the ways
in which material culture both shapes and reflects human experience.
Its goal is to educate a broad audience about the ways design
has served as a reflection of societal values and as an active
force in the shaping of human experience.
The Wolfsonian's collection
now numbers more than 70,000 objects, primarily from North
America and Europe, including furniture, decorative arts,
paintings, books, periodicals, and ephemera that demonstrate
the role of design as an agent and expression of the cultural,
political, and technological changes that swept the world
from the late-nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries.
The Wolfsonian was founded
in 1986 to oversee the Mitchell Wolfson Jr. Collection. In
July 1997, The Wolfsonian became a division of Florida International
University after The Wolfsonian's founder, Mitchell Wolfson
Jr., donated and the Florida State University System accepted
the Mitchell Wolfson Jr. Collection of Decorative and Propaganda
Arts and The Wolfsonian's historic headquarters.
