The Jed Foundation launched a free website, ULIFELINE.org, which links students to mental health centers. Information and anonymous screening for issues including depression, eating disorders, and suicide. College can subscribe, enabling students to avail themselves of all the services.

    This comprehensive web site features a search engine, general informaiton, diabetes type I, diabetes type II, community and resources, healthy living (exercise, diet, stress, taking care of your body), tip of the day, and an opportunity to subscribe to an online newsletter. There is also a site for health professionals.

    The latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005 released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA). provide authoritative advice for people two years and older about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases.

    · Available now

    Mirena IUD:
    · From Berlex laboratories
    · Available since late Jan
    · Five year use but could last seven years
    · IUD coated with progesterone

    NuvaRing:
    · Thin, flexible plastic ring about 2 inches across contains estrogen and progestin and inserted into vagina with slow release of hormones
    · From Organon
    · Not available, but approval hopefully this summer
    · Device stays in vagina for 21 days and left out for seven days.


    Implanon:
    · the single implant version of Norplant with one implant using desogestrel.
    · From Organon and is sold overseas
    · Organon expects to apply for FDA approval in 2002.

    Ortho Evra:
    · The seven day patch containing estrogen and progestin.
    · Use includes three weekly patches and then fourth week off.
    · Not available now but a unit of Johnson and Johnson is seeking approval from FDA.

    New birth control pills:
    Cyclessa:
    · approved by FDA through Organon in December
    · contains lowest dose triphasic pills.
    · Organon expects to market pill this year.

    Seasonale:
    · The pill that makes tri-cycling possible.
    · Contains 84 days of hormones and then a week off.
    · In testing which will continue into early 2002 and expected to
    reach market about mid 2003.
