FRANKLIN SOARES
President

Franklin Soares is a Master's Student in the Higher Education Administration program. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He is originally from Rhode Island, the smallest state in the union. His hobbies include bowling, watching the news and weather, and hanging out with his friends. Finally, one of Franklin's favorite quotes is by Jean Paul Sartre, "Everything has been figured out, except how to live."

JACINTA AVERY
Vice-President

Currently I am a Master’s student within the Higher Education Administration Program at FIU. As an alumnus of Bowling Green State University, I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Journalism in 2004 with major in public relations and a minor in marketing. I enjoy meeting new people, live music (of all kinds), movies, traveling, exercise, Broadway productions and relaxing at the beach. Currently, I have a graduate assistantship in the Office of Campus Life at the University Park campus. I am proud to sever the needs of the graduate student community.

JASON INGRAO
VP Biscayne Bay Campus

As a native of Jamestown, NY (home of Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy) I enjoy reading, recreational activities, watching movies, listening to music, cooking, and hanging with friend. In 2006, I received a Bachelors of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in International Studies and a Minor in Italian. Presently, I am a second year graduate student in the Higher Education Administration Program. I have a graduate assistantship with the Offices of Campus Life and Orientation and Residence Life on the Biscayne Bay Campus. I am very excited for the opportunity to work with GSA and invite you to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve GSA.

ANN MARIE HIBBERT

Ann Marie Hibbert is a finance doctoral candidate in the College of Business Administration. Her research interests include behavioral finance, financial risk management and corporate finance. This Jamaican has a passion for teaching, is an avid sports fan and is a health food aficionado.

My name is Hanh Lai, I am a Ph.D. student in the department of chemistry. I am the GSA Treasurer for the 2007-2008 academic year. I really look forward to an exciting year working with the GSA E-board to provide the best possible supports and resources to our new coming and current graduate students. Our energy and enthusiasm will make this year a memorable one.

I am a 2nd year student in the Master's in Higher Education Administration program. I have an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Organizational Behavior/Management from the University of Miami. I am born and raised in Miami and I am a fraternal twin who enjoys bowling, watching movies, and reading. I am an academic advisor in the Undergraduate Studies/ Academic Advising Center and I look forward to collaborating with the graduate students community and assisting them with their needs and concerns this year.

Marketing Chair

Kamila Kasprzycka is a second year Master's Student in Integrated Communications: Advertising and Public Relations Program at FIU. Originally from Poland, she graduated with high honors from Madonna University in Michigan in 2004. After completing her Bachelors Degree in Communication Arts, she worked in marketing and advertising until she moved to Miami in August 2006. Kamila currently works as a Graduate Assistant for Multicultural Programs and Services on Biscayne Bay Campus. She loves reading, Lars Von Trier movies, photography, snowboarding and spending time with friends and family. Traveling is her biggest passion.

I am Naveli Jogaikar pursuing my Master's in Electrical Engineering. Originally from India, I have undergraduate degree in Electronics and Telecommunications. After completing my Bachelors, I worked as a Software Testing Engineer until I moved to Miami in August 2007. I get pleasure from reading, watching movies, listening to music, hanging out with friends and family, traveling and cooking. Currently I am working as an Office Assistant in GSA. I hope to do my best, and help GSA serve the graduate students. I can be contacted through email or during my office hours in GC2303.

DR. GEORGE WALKER
Dean, University Graduate School

Dr. George E. Walker became Vice President for Research and Dean of the University Graduate School at Florida International University in September 2006. Froom 2001 to 2006, he served as Senior Scholar and Director of Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate at The carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Dr. George Walker is a theoretical nuclear physicist who earned his undergraduate education at Wesleyan University, his graduate education at Case Western University, and his post-doctoral education at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and at Stanford University. Most of his scholarly career was at Indiana University, where he was Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School for many years. He was twice honored by physics graduate students with the "Outstanding Contributions to Graduate Education" award, and by his peers through election as a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He led the establishment of a Nuclear Theory Center at Indiana University. He is also chair of the Physics and Advanced Technology Directorate Advisory Committee, and chair of the Nuclear Division Advisory Committee, both at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. In addition, he is a member of the National Advisory Board of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL). Among many other boards, Walker has served as president of the Association of Graduate Schools of the Association of American Universities, as Chair of the Board of the Council of Graduate Schools, and as member of the National Advisory Board of the National Survey of Student Engagement.
