Introduction to Earth Science Labs:

1.    Attendance: If you miss one lab, you may miss a quiz, and you will miss material on which you will be subsequently quizzed. Labs start on time.  If you arrive late or leave early you may receive partial or no credit (points). Definition of an excused absence: a medical excuse signed by the attending physician.

2.    Lab exercises: are to be completed independently during the lab. When asked to work on a team, each team member is to think independently—completing the assignment in his/her own words in his/her lab manual. To receive full credit you are expected to bring your lab manual to lab. Lab exercises will be evaluated at the end of each lab. Labs cannot be made up. If you do not the attend lab you will receive zero points for that assignment.        Asking questions in lab is good for you.

3.    7 QUIZZES: A written and/or practical quiz on material covered in the preceding lab(s) will be given the first 20 minutes of 7 labs. Quiz days there will be no lab time to review before the quiz. NO MAKE-UP QUIZZES. However, at the end of the term one quiz grade is dropped (the lowest score) to compensate for one absence or one low quiz score.

4.    If you plan to be absent to observe a religious holiday make arrangements with the Lab Instructor the first week of class (We adhere to University policy).

5.    Each student will be responsible for lab equipment/materials and for cleaning up his/her area. 

6. No food or drinks in the lab; cellular phones/electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight.

7. Academic Integrity: Academic dishonesty or disruptive behavior will be reported to the lab manager. Please familarize yourself with The University’s Code of Conduct

The UP lab, PC 328, will be open additional hours for review, as posted by door.

The BBC lab’s extended hours are by arrangement with the instructor.

GRADES ARE NOT CURVED. The final grade is computed at the end of the term from points earned on quizzes and independent completion of in-class lab assignments. There is no laboratory final exam. Grades are determined by percentage as follows: A = 94-100, A- = 90-93, B+ = 87-89, B = 83-86, B- = 80-82, C+ = 77-79, C = 73-76, C- = 70-72, D+ = 67-69, D = 63-66, D- = 60-62, F = fewer than 60 points.
