Thank you for your interest in the Environmental Studies Graduate Program at Florida International University. We welcome you to contact the department should you have any questions concerning our program or the admissions process.
In order for the department to begin the evaluation process, an applicant's file must be complete. See a detailed diagram of the application process. Application for admission requires that you send the following to the Office of Admissions:
- A completed graduate application
- An official copy of all academic transcripts in English
- An official copy of GRE scores (The department requires a combined score of 1000 or greater, verbal + quantitative sections).
- An official coy of TOEFL scores, if applicable (The department requires a 550(paper)/213(computer) or higher).
- An application fee of $30.00
You should also send a copy of the above materials directly to the Department of Environmental Studies in order to expedite the evaluation process. Furthermore, the department must receive 3 letters of recommendation and a letter of intent, describing the specific area of study you plan to pursue. The entire process may take a number of weeks after you apply. You are encouraged to contact potential research advisors directly before you apply, as their support is essential in gaining admission.
Deadlines for submitting applications are March 1st for Fall admission and October 1st for Spring admission.
Students can compete for financial aid by completing applications for financial assistance with the Financial Aid Office. Applications are available in January for the following academic year, which begins in August. Applicants are not reviewed until all documents that are required to complete the file are received by the Financial Aid Office.
Our Department provides a limited number of Teaching Assistantships (TA) on a competitive basis. TAs are given for up to two years with acceptable academic performance. Limited numbers of Graduate Research Assistantships (RAs) are available and are awarded on a competitive basis.
