NSF-FIU Research Workshop Organizer (Jan 27, 2006) – Invited NSF Program Officer for the Ecosystem Studies to conduct a day workshop on NSF funding priorities, proposal preparation, review criteria, and students research opportunities.
Research Program Reviewer - Lake Pontchartrain Basin Research Program, Department of Biology, Southeastern Louisiana University , Hammond , LA. May 9 – 12, 2006. Served as a site reviewer for the research program funded by EPA. Had opportunity to meet with the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Provost, and the University President. Evaluated the overall performance of the program and made recommendations for improvement and successful research activities for environmental restoration of the wetlands.
Symposium Organizer - Organized a special one-day symposium on “Advances in Molecular Approaches in Soil Microbiology” at Soil Science Society of America Conference, Nov 9-10, 2005, Salt Lake City , UT. Invited experts in various fields of molecular soil microbiology for a special presentation. Compiling manuscripts for publication as special issue in Soil Science Society of America Journal.

High School Teachers Workshop - Co-Organized with Dr. Bhat. Recruited 15 high school teachers and conducted Workshop on Sustainable Agriculture July 17-22, 2006. Co-Ordinated two day lectures followed by laboratory and field trips. We had a successful one week workshop.
Students Workshop - Co-Organized with Dr. Bhat. Agroecology scholarship winners were invited to present at the workshop on October 23, 2006
Access and Equity Committee – Member and Chair of Diversity Advisory and Minority Enrollment Committee. A & E Committee is The President's committee to monitor and review several activities in FIU including equal employment opportunities, gender, sexual orientation, race discrimination, diversity atmosphere, students accessibility to facilities etc. Attended monthly meetings and working on diversity and minority enrollment issues.
Radiation Safety Committee – Member – Meet twice a year and review radioactive material use in laboratories. Maintain database of radioactive use personnel, laboratories, and the chemicals. Review radioactive user applications, and authorize the use of radioactive compounds.
The Honors College – Students Research and Artistic Initiatives (SRAI) – Founding member, planner, organizer for the undergraduate students' Students Research and Artistic Initiatives for The Honors College. Developed Mission and Vision for the program, developed a structure, invited faculty members to join as affiliates to the program. Developed faculty and student database, developed opportunities for the undergraduate students to identify funding sources. Served as the Director of the program for two years - 2003-2005.
Associate Editor for Journal of Environmental Quality (2002-2004 and 2005-2007) – Responsible for identifying reviewers, compile review summary, and evaluate the publication quality of the manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Environmental Quality. Communicate with the editor, technical editor, and the head quarters regarding the review process.
Editorial Advisory Board Member for Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment (2002-continue) – Review manuscripts on monthly one manuscript basis, provide review and evaluation to the editorial office. Discuss journal ratings and develop strategies to improve the publication quality.
Biological Control Executive Board Member (2005 – 2010)
Mentorship - Served as mentor for several EVR majors and High School Student. Jose Pacheco, a transfer student is being trained on microbiological techniques. We sent him to Washington , DC to participate in minority students leadership conference.
Students Recruitment - Dr. Bhat and I made several visits to Miami-Dade County High Schools (~2 hours per school) to recruit students to Agroecology program and EVR major.
