Professor Campbell McGrath's new book, Seven Notebooks
(Ecco Press/HarperCollins, 2008), has been greeted as a major event in contemporary American poetry, receiving
coverage in such diverse national venues as the L.A. Times and the Wall Street Journal. It
has been hailed by former Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky in the Washington Post, as "large, complex
and entertaining." Publisher's Weekly calls it "big, ambitious, optimistic," while Library Journal
considers it "fun, serious, moving." The New York Sun views the book as "a marvelous example
of Mr. McGrath's formal gifts, his genial humor, and his tremendous descriptive powers."
Additionally, 14 Views of Miami, a video/poetry project, created by McGrath in collaboration with
John Stuart, Associate Professor of Architecture, will receive its world premiers at the Wolfsonian-FIU on April 8, 2008.
| John Evans was just awarded a Stegner Fellowship from Stanford University. |

John Evans, who received his MFA from FIU last year, was just awarded a
Stegner Fellowship from Stanford University. This is about the most
prestigious distinction available to writers who have received an MFA,
but not yet made their mark as published authors. He will be in
residence at Stanford for two years, take workshops with other Stegner
Fellows, and receive a stipend of $26,000, plus tuition and health care.
He has an option to remain at Stanford for a third year, teaching
creative writing to undergraduates. Past Stegner Fellows include Raymond
Carver, Phillip Levine and Larry McMurtry, among many illustrious
others. Given the tragedy and turmoil of John's past year, this is a
marvelous turn of events. It's not bad for FIU, either, to have our
comrades so highly regarded in the world.
Additionally, 14 Views of Miami, a video/poetry project, created by
evans in collaboration with John Stuart, Associate Professor of Architecture, will
receive its world premiers at the Wolfsonian-FIU on April 8, 2008.
