Provides teachers of students with disabilities instructional and assistive technology skills that enhance student learning and increase access to the general education curriculum. Prerequisite: EEX 3012.
EEX 3066: Instructional Practices in Exceptional Student Education I (3).
This course includes the theoretical basis and principles of appropriate instructional practices and techniques for students with mild disabilities, IEP planning, and curriculum development. Prerequisites: EEX 3012, EEX 3221, SPA 3000, EDP 3218.
EEX 3070: Teaching Students with Exceptionalities in Inclusive Settings (3).
This course focuses on the foundations of inclusive education, characteristics of students with disabilities, instructional strategies, and collaboration among eduators and parents.
EEX 4240: Literacy in Special Education (3).
This course provides a theoretical and practical framework for understanding issues related to teaching, reading and language arts to students with exceptionalities. Prerequisites: SPA 3000, RED 4150, RED 4311.
EEX 4601: Behavioral Approaches to Learning and Classroom Management I (3). Introductory course in applied behavior analysis for those planning to teach students with exceptionalities. Provides concepts and skills necessary for application of operant conditioning principles. Prerequisites: EEX 3202, SPA 3000, EEX 3221. (S,SS)
EEX 4810: Supervised Practicum in Special Education (1).
The practicum in Special Education provides opportunity for an intensive and integrated experience in the classroom under the close supervision of master teachers and university personnel. Corequisite: Senior status. (F)
EEX 4861: Student Teaching (9).
A field experience for program majors in Special Education providing opportunities to demonstrate competencies learned throughout the program. Prerequisite: Completion of all program requirements. Full admission as a degree-seeking student in the undergraduate special education program. (S)

Concepts or competencies contracted between an undergraduate student and faculty member in accordance with the student’s individual needs. (F,S,SS)
EEX 4936: Student Teaching Seminar in Special Education (3).
Seminar required of students enrolled in the Bachelor’s and Modified Master’s programs in Special Education. The purpose is to support, encourage and guide students through the transition from ‘learning how to teach’ to independent teaching. Prerequisites: All program courses. Field based course required of all special education majors. Must be successfully completed before graduating from the program. EEX 5259: Literacy in Special Education (3).
Provides teachers with knowledge of specific developmental, remedial reading and language arts strategies, assessment and implementation models that can be used for students with exceptionalities. (SS)

Application of behavioral principles to children and youth in educational and community settings. Required for special education modified masters’ and out-of-field certification majors. Prerequisite: EEX 6051. (F)

EEX 6203: Psychological/Sociological Aspects of Disability (3).
Psychological/sociological aspects of disability in relation to socio/political forces, attitudes, and behaviors that impede or facilitate the options of individuals with disabilities in schools and communities. (AR)
EEX 6208: Medical Aspects of Disability (3).
Medical etiology and remediation of disability. Includes genetic, biochemical, nutritional, and physical agents in mental retardation, learning disability, and emotional handicaps. Prerequisite: EEX 3202 or equivalent. (F)
EEX 6211: Assessment of Learning and Behavior (3).
Presents a model for assessing the skills and abilities of students with exceptionalities. Emphasis is on administration, scoring and interpretation of a variety of standardized tests, and communication of results in written reports and oral staffings. EEX 6213: Assessment and Interventions for Young Children with Disabilities (3).

EEX 6225: Educational Assessment of Students with Exceptionalities (3).

This course constitutes the culminating experience in the Masters Program by establishing the link between curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Prerequisite: Completion of required Masters course work. (S)
