MASTER OF SCIENCE IN STATISTICS

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

     MS IN MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES:

      1.   An undergraduate degree in mathematics, applied mathematics or mathematical sciences is needed for admission. If an applicant's undergraduate major is not in mathematics, applied mathematics or mathematical sciences, then the following courses are required before his/her application for admission can be considered: Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra, Complex Variables, Structure of Algebra.

      2.   A minimum combined score of 1000 on the quantitative and verbal sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The Department may consider waiving the GRE requirement if applicants have an earned graduate degree from an accredited US institution.

      3.   A minimum ‘B’ average (3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale) in upper level (undergraduate) work, and a 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale) GPA in mathematics courses.

      4.   For foreign applicants only. A minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (or a minimum score of 80 on iBT, or 213 on computer-based version), or a minimum of 6.5 overall on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

      5.   Approval by the Graduate Committee of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

     MS IN MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES (RISK ANALYSIS MANAGEMENT TRACK):

      1.   An undergraduate degree in quantitative science is needed for admission. The applicants must have solid mathematics background that includes the following courses: Linear Algebra and Differential Equations.

      2.   A minimum combined score of 1000 on the quantitative and verbal sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The Department may consider waiving the GRE requirement if applicants have an earned graduate degree from an accredited US institution. Applicants are allowed to use GMAT score to replace the GRE requirement. The required minimum score is 500.

      3.   A minimum ‘B’ average (3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale) in upper level (undergraduate) work, and a 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale) GPA in mathematics courses.

      4.   For foreign applicants only. A minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (or a minimum score of 80 on iBT, or 213 on computer-based version), or a minimum of 6.5 overall on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

      5.   Approval by the Graduate Committee of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

      1.   An undergraduate degree in statistics or mathematics is needed for admission. If an applicant's undergraduate major is not in statistics or mathematics, then the following courses are required: Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra, At least one course in statistics.

      2.   A minimum combined score of 1000 on the quantitative and verbal sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The Department may consider waiving the GRE requirement if applicants have an earned graduate degree from an accredited US institution.

      3.   A minimum ‘B’ average (3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale) in upper level (undergraduate) work, and a 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale) GPA in mathematics courses.
