SAMPLE EXAM-III PROBLEMS
Read
each of the assigned chapter sections (listed below) before the
lecture, and again immediately after. Suggested problems from the book
will be listed on the blackboard. This is the bare minimum number of
problems that you should solve for practice. Understanding physics
means being able to solve problems, not memorizing equations.Students enrolled in this class are STRONGLY encouraged to also enroll in the corresponding PROBLEM SOLVING class. This course assumes that you have taken, or are currently taking, Calculus I. If you do not have the appropriate mathbackground and skills at this level, you will not do well in this course, and may fail.Textbook: We
will be using University Physics by Young and Freedman, 12th Edition.
The book comes with a student access kit for Mastering Physics
(www.masteringphysics.com). If you bought a used book without Mastering
Physics, you can purchase it on-line.Homework Assignments:Mastering
Physics web-based system will be used for turning in and grading the
homework. You can get to the homework page by clicking here where you
will find detailed instructions for using the system. Make sure to
register for the correct section, the section ID is CHAPAGAINFALL08. The assignments have to be turned in on time.Grading:There
will be three in-class examinations and the final examination. No make-up examinations will be given. If you miss an
examination you will receive a grade of zero for that examination. The
course grade will be determined using the grades obtained in the final
exam, three in-class exams, and the homework. The weighting of the
grades will be 20% each (= 60%) for the three in-class exams, 20% for the final
exam, and 20% for the homework, (i.e. 20x5=100%). Grading Scale is given below.Schedule and Reading Assignments:Following is the class schedule and it may change as the course progresses.
