Organization

The Cataloging Dept. consists of 15 full-time staff, including 6 librarians, 6 Senior Library Technical Assistants, 2 Archivists and one LTA supervisor. The librarians are:

Sue Wartzok - Dept. Head
Elaine Winske - Asst. Dept. Head and Head of Authorities & Database Maintenance Unit
Mirtha Hernandez - Principal Monographic Cataloger
Bob Mead-Donaldson - Head of Special Materials Cataloging Unit
David Lawson - Serials Cataloger
Vacant - Cataloger, Electronic & Research Materials

The Department is organized into six functional subunits:

Authorities & Database Maintenance Unit - 2 SLTAs reporting to the Unit Head
Katia Nuñez: authority control & weekly Marcive data loads

Margarita Perez: database maintenance, including collection transfers; keeps GenLoad profiles up to date; monthly Marcive loads & NetLibrary loads

Electronic Resources & Research Materials Cataloging - the E&RM Cataloger [vacant]

Monographic Cataloging - 1 librarian, 2 Archivists & 1 SLTA reporting to the Dept. Head
Maria Bello: 2nd & 3rd level cataloging; some original cataloging; staff resource person for all library staff doing technical services functions, including trouble shooting problems with data loads, permissions, macros and all computer-related problems; liaison to Sytems Dept.

Nora Ferrer: 2nd & 3rd level cataloging; some original cataloging; staff resource person for all departmental staff with cataloging questions

Vacant: 2nd level cataloging

Serials Cataloging - the Serials Cataloger

Special Materials Cataloging - 1 SLTA reporting to the Unit Head
Marilyn Gabriel: CDs, DVDs, & scores and is learning to catalog curriculum materials

Record Creation - 2 SLTAs and various part-time staff reporting to an LTA Supervisor who reports to the Dept. Head

Ana Arteaga: LTA Supervisor; sees that bibliographic records are created or brought into ALEPH from OCLC for firm orders, approval books and gifts; sees that invoices are processed and returned to Acquisitions promptly; organizes in-process materials; handles in-process requests

Aida Lucas: record creation, especially for Spanish firm orders; has recently learned to do 2nd level cataloging

Gustavo Echeverri: record creation; 1st level cataloging; is learning to do 2nd level cataloging; handles all Springer standing order receipts; is learning to do data loads for EOCRs and PromptCat records for Yankee approval books

North Miami Campus Bibliographic Control Dept.

The Bibliographic Control Dept. combines Cataloging with Monographic and Serials Acquisitions. The cataloging responsibilities are handled by the Dept. Head Nancy Hershoff and one Archivist.
