Arts and Sciences Advising Center:

University Requirements (All Students at FIU)

(Just some highlights)

1. UCC –University Core Curriculum

Note: Transfer Students with an AA degree from a Florida State Community College or a University in the Florida State System are exempt from the UCC.)

2. Must clear the CLAST requirement

3. You need a minimum of 120 credits to graduate. (Necessary but not sufficient; taking Karate for one credit 120 times will not get you a diploma.)

Note: The University will allow you to apply a maximum of 60 LOWER DIVISION transfer credits towards your total number of credits for graduation.

To have more than 60 transfer credits applied towards your total for graduation you must file a special appeal and prove that some of the courses taken before entering FIU were UPPER DIVISION.  For specific details see your advisor.

Note: CLEP (College Level Examination Program) tests are accepted as lower division transfer credits even if you take the exam here.  Also, they often will be transferred automatically with the rest of your transcript from another institution; you must have the CLEP offices send the scores directly to FIU Records.

4. Students entering the University with fewer than 60 hours must complete 9 hours of coursework during the summer semester.

5. Foreign Language Requirement
