Admission to the College of Arts & Sciences

 

FIU Freshmen and Sophomores/Transfer Students with Fewer than 60 Credits:

 

Transfer Students with at Least 60 Credits:

 

Freshmen may intend major after having earned 30 credit hours, however they cannot officially declare* a major until they are admitted into the Upper Division Academic Unit of their major.

 

In order to be admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences, students must have met the following three requirements:

 

  • complete 60 semester hours
  • have a 2.0 GPA or better
  • cleared all sections of the CLAST exam.

 

Once the student has met the above requirements, the student may apply for admission into the College by completing the Change of Major form and have the form signed by a departmental representative and then either Joyce Peterson in the Dean's Office (BBC) or Kenton Harris in the Dean's Office (UPC). 

Transfer students with an Associate of Arts degree from a Florida State community college or a Florida State University or having completed the equivalent coursework at a four-year institution may be admitted into the Upper Division Academic Unit and declare* their major if they have

 

  • earned a minimum of 60 credits
  • a cumulative FIU 2.0 GPA or better
  • cleared all sections of the CLAST exam

 

*The Office of Graduation will NOT accept graduation applications from students who have not been officially admitted to an Upper Division Academic Unit (e.g. the College of Arts and Sciences) and Declared their major.
