Workshops

Each semester, Career Services hosts a multitude of workshops for FIU alumni and students. The list of workshops that are offered change periodically, so please check this page regularly for updates.

"Career Services 101/On Campus Interviewing"
(Career Success Services Orientation Workshop)

An Introduction to the services offered by the Career Services office. This workshop will walk students through the general procedures for registering with Career Services, highlighting the differences between Basic Services and Career Success Services. Also demontrates how students will upload resume(s), cover letter(s) and other job search documents into the online Panther JOBlink system. Students will learn how to set up job search agents and submit resume(s) to online resume books as well as how to do a general online job search through Panther JOBlink. Learn how to find out which companies are coming on campus and how to get an interview with them. This workshop is REQUIRED for all students who wish to participate in Career Success Services.

"Internship 101 "
Learn the ins and outs of finding an internship and the different types of internships available through our office. Receive tips and resources for finding the best internship available for your major and your requirements. Also, learn where to sign up for the internship list serv so that you can begin to receive "hot-off-the-press" internship information. Don't miss the opportunity to land the internship of a lifetime.

"UnderCover: the secrets to making a good first impression"
(previously known as
- Resume Writing Workshop) - Students will learn the basics of writing a winning resume that focuses on their skills based on the different resume formats. Learn resume words and how to write your resume objective. This workshop is recommended for students who need a point in writing a resume.

"How to put some bling in your step."
(
Previously known as - Interview Skills Workshop) - Learn interview etiquette - how to shake hands, how to dress, how to answer difficult questions and much more.

Arts & Sciences Workshop Series - Come and learn about the different careers, job opportunities and internship possibilities offered for those enrolled with the Arts & Sciences. The workshops are broken up into units consisting of the Social Sciences, Sciences and Math’s and the Humanities.

Graduate Students Competitive Edge Series (CES) Workshop - The Competitive Edge Series, provided by the Graduate Student Association in conjunction with Career Services, are workshops designed specifically with the graduate student population in mind. Be informed of the developments in your field of interest and make yourself a better candidate to sustain the fierce competition out there in the job market.

These series focus on various topics that play a part in a graduate student’s life and career. For example, web design, resume/CV, how to present yourself and your work, how to make a powerpoint presentation, the numerous sources available at the library for graduate students to conduct research, etc. This year Competitive Edge Series workshop themes will be forthcoming.
Admission to these CES is completely free to graduate students. Furthermore, GSA provides free drinks and food to the lecturers and to the students attending these workshops.
