The following are typical questions your
students may ask and brief answers you can provide to
guide them in the right direction for utilizing our
services.
A: CS provides many career development services including:
career counseling and assessments, a computerized career
guidance program called SIGI plus, a one-credit career
course open to all majors (GEB 2935 Career & Leadership
Development) and a College Majors Fair for undecided
students.
A: Internships and other student employment opportunities
are available in most majors. Students should visit
the office to attend
a workshop or view the workshop on-line and complete
required paperwork. Refer students to the Student
menu under Internships for more details. Other job
opportunities are available through JobListings, an
on-line job listing service. Job

A: The Competitive Edge Graduate Series
are workshops conducted throughout the academic year
designed to prepare graduate students for employment.
These workshops help students develop professional
skills that will facilitate their productivity in the
workplace. Previous workshops have included grant writing,
presentation skills; jobs search strategies, management
and supervisory skills, and developing your own business.

will have the date of the next scheduled workshop.
A: CS provides many opportunities for students to meet
career professionals. Career Fairs bring over 100 employers
to campus to meet with students. Career Forums are panel
presentations that target specific career fields. These
events allow students to ask questions of professionals
in the field and network with panel members in a reception
following the event. Get more information on Career

A: CS publishes an annual Career Services Handbook
that contains information on resume and cover letter
writing. Many Internet sources are also available. Sample
resumes are available by clicking on the Career Resources
section on the Student
Menu (Note: this link will take you to the student
section). CS also provides open resume critique hours
when students can come in with a draft of their resume
and receive feedback. Feedback is provided on a first
come first served basis. Check with the office for the
schedule.
