“XYZ Company” and it says that I do not meet the requirements,
but I DO meet the requirements – what should I do?
1. How do I register with Career Services?
- Go to our website at http://www.fiu.edu/~career.
- Click on the link “Register With Us”.
- Review the registration instructions on this page
and the authorization to release data.
- At the bottom of that page, provide consent by
clicking “I Agree – Begin Registration”.
- Enter your FIU email address and create your own
username and password.
- Fill in the requested contact, education, employment
preference, demographic and student services information.
- FOR CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES –
if you have completed steps a-f, you must also pay
the Career Success Services fee.
- Once you have paid AND completed the steps to
register with us, you should send an email to panther.link@fiu.edu
for us to activate you for Career Success Services.
- Please allow 1-2 business days AFTER we have received
your email for us to activate you.
2. What is the difference between Basic
and Career Success Services?
- Basic Services are FREE for all
currently enrolled students. These services include:
- Individual Career Counseling, In Person
Resume Critiques, Mock Interviews, Job Search Workshops,
Career Assessments, Career Fairs & Forums, Global
Job Listings.
- Career Success Services involve
a fee. Currently enrolled students pay $20, and
these services last for as long as student is enrolled,
plus one year after graduation. Alumni pay $55 and
these services last for one year after activation.
3. What is Career Success Services?
Career Success Services are
an efficient way for you to connect with potential employers
through on-campus interviews, resume referrals, and
Panther JOBlink job listings for FIU students. The on-campus
recruitment program brings major Fortune 500 companies
to Career Services to conduct interviews.
4. What is Panther JOBlink?
Panther JOBlink is our new
online job and interview management system. Panther
JOBlink provides a connection between employers and
individuals looking for jobs and internships. Panther
JOBlink is a partnership between FIU Career Services
and NACElink and replaces our old partnership with Monstertrak.
Through Panther JOBlink, Career Success Services subscribers
access job postings and internship/co-op opportunities.
As appropriate, they electronically submit their resumes
for consideration. Employers review resumes submitted
and select individuals to interview.
5. I was a Career Success Services member
on the old system. What should I do in order to continue
being so on this new system?
You would need to re-register with our new Panther
JOBlink system – if you have not already done so.
Please follow the steps given in Question #1 above.
If you are still a student and have already paid
for Career Success Services, you will not need to
pay again. If you graduated LESS THAN one year ago,
you will still have access to use our system. However,
if you graduated MORE THAN one year ago, you may have
to pay our alumni fee of $55 to register for Career
Success Services again.
6. I already paid for Career Success
Services – Do I need to pay again?
That depends!
- If you are still a student – the answer is NO
you do not need to pay again.
- If you have already graduated, you may fall in
one of 3 categories:
- If you graduated less than one year ago and
you paid for Career Success Services – then
you do NOT need to pay again.
- If you graduated more than 1 year ago, but
you paid for Career Success Services less than
1 year ago, then you do NOT need to pay again.
- If you graduate MORE THAN 1 year ago, and
you paid for Career Success Services MORE THAN
1 year ago, then you will need to pay our Alumni
fee of $55.
7. Where can I go and pay
for Panther Link?
You must come into one of our office locations to
pay for Career Success Services. We are located at
3 campuses:
- University Park – GC 230
- Biscayne Bay Campus – WUC 255
- Engineering Campus – EAS 2870
Payment must be check, money order, Visa or MasterCard
8. I have registered for the career
services (basic services) online. Just want to
know how can I purchase the Career Success Services.
Do I need to come to University Park, GC-230 to pay
$20?
Yes! Or WUC 255 or EAS 2870. Alumni pay
$55
9. When I enter my e-mail
address it gives an error.

10. I get an error message
that says "Your information does not match...."
We probably just entered your email address
in the Panther JOBlink system . Sometimes it takes
about 5 minutes for the system to recognize it. Please
try again in about 5-10 minutes.
11. I already graduated
from FIU – what do I need to do to register for Panther
JOBlink?
If you already graduated, and you did
not pay for Career Success Services while you were
a student, then you need to pay $55 at one of our
office locations (GC230, WUC255 or EAS2870).
12. I am a member of the Golden Panther
and have tried to re-register onto the system. However
the system indicates that my email is not valid, which
I know that it is because I am currently enrolled for
this semester. What should I do?
When we transferred to the new Panther
JOBlink system, we did not have everyone’s email address
to upload into our system. If you get an email error
please contact us at: 305-348-2423, 305-348-1282 or
305-919-5770 OR email panther.link@fiu.edu describing
your problem and including your email address and
we will add your email to our Panther JOBlink database
13. I am interested in
purchasing the Career Success Services. Can you
just charge my school account so financial aid pays
for it? Or what do you I have to do?
No, sorry. You must come into one of our
office locations to pay (GC230, WUC255 or EAS 2870)
14. I was a Career Success
Services member before the Career Services System upgrade.
Now, after I updated my profile, it won't let me post

Services member. What should I do?
You should send an email to panther.link@fiu.edu
to let us know that you have completed your online
profile and you wish to be reactivated for Career
Success Services. Please include your full name and
graduation date in the email. Please allow 1-2 business
days to be reactivated.
Questions About Resumes:
15. How do I upload my resume to Career
Services?
- You must first be registered for Career Success
Services. See question 1 above.
- You should have your resume already saved on your
computer or a disk – in MS Word or any other Word
Processing File.
- After you have registered and paid the Career
Success Services fee, you should log into the Panther
JOBlink system at: http://www.fiu.edu/~career
- Click on the link "CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES"
- Click on the link “Upload/Update resume and more”
- Click “Store Resumes”
- Click on the link “Click here to upload a resume”
- Click the “Browse” button and then locate where
you have saved your resume on your computer or disk.
- Give your resume a title – something professional
– employers will see the name of your resume.
- Click “upload/update your resume”
16. Help! The system will
not let me upload my resume. Why?
- If you are not able to follow the steps in Question
14 above, then you have not been activated for Career
Success Services.
- If you have already paid for the service, please
send an email to panther.link@fiu.edu for us to
activate you.
- Please allow 1-2 business days for activation.
17. My resume does not
look the same as my original document.
- When you upload your resume into the Panther
JOBlink system, it gets converted into a .pdf file.
This is to ensure that our employers will be able
to see it.
- It is important that you look at your resume once
it is uploaded to make sure that the format is still
in tact.
- Here are some tips BEFORE you upload your resume:
- Avoid using a fancy font – the conversion
may not recognize it.
- Use the TAB key instead of the space bar to
align your text.
- Avoid using tables – also gets distorted when
uploaded.
AVOID USE OF MS WORD TEMPLATES – these sometimes
include tables, which get distorted when uploaded.
- Check you page margins – sometimes if your
resume is too close to the edge, it may wrap
your text to another line.
18. How can I see my resume
once it is uploaded to Panther JOBlink?
- If you click on the resume title – you will be
able to see what the uploaded version looks like.
- You will need to have adobe acrobat reader installed
on you computer – you can download this for free
from the http://www.adobe.com
website.
19. How do I make a change
to my resume?
- You must make all changes to your resume on the
ORIGINAL version, which you saved on your computer
or disk – in MS Word or other program. Resave document.
- Once you make the changes, log into the system
and click on "CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES and then
click on “Upload/Update resume and more”
- Click on “Store Resumes”.
- Select the resume that you wish to change – by
click on the radio button.
- Click on “Click here to update the selected resume”.
- Locate modified resume from your computer/disk.
- Click “upload/update resume”.
20. How do I submit my
resume to a potential employer?
- You must first be registered for Career Success
Services - see questions 2 and 3 above.
- Once you have your resume uploaded into the system,
you will have to do a search for an employer.
- This can be done 1 of 2 ways. First, click on
"CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES"
- Then click on “ Job Listings (Global & Local)”.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page – click
the “Search” button.
- Click on the position title of your choice.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page where it
says “Application Details”. There should be instructions
there for submitting your resume to the employer.
PLEASE NOTE: If the position is for
an On-Campus interview, you MUST meet the employers
requirements in order to submit a your resume through
the Panther JOBlink system. When you are looking at
the job details, you should see what the requirements
for the position are.
21. What does it mean
that my Resume has been “Approved with reservations”?
This means that a Career Services staff member has
reviewed your resume and should have provided some
feedback. Please check your email to find the feedback
provided.
22. I don't know what to put down
on my resume as for a title. I thought I should
put my name but it says "put something down that appears
professional".
You can put anything for the name. Some people simply
put their name or the name of their major...or the
type of job that they are looking for. For example
- Accounting Resume, Full Time Resume, Internship
Resume, Technology Resume.
23. I re-registered for the career
services online and I got a message that I don't have
access to my resumes online, etc. Why does that
happen and how can I fix that?
You must be registered for Career Success Services
in order to be able to upload your resume. In the
old system that we had, everyone could upload their
resume to the system - both Basic and CSS users, however,
in the new Panther JOBlink system, only Career Success
Services users
24. I can only submit my resume once
with the new system. is it possible to resubmit again
if I make changes to my resume.
First, you can submit more than one resume into
the Panther JOBlink system. In fact, you can upload
up to 10 resumes. Secondly, YES - you can always update
the resume that you uploaded. However, you MUST make
the changes to the original resume document (that
you saved on your computer or on a disk) and then
log into Panther JOBlink and "update" the
resume that is in the system. (Please see Question
18 for more details)
Questions About Job Listings:
25. I am having trouble accessing
job listings when I specify the type of job that I am
looking for. I don’t get any matches. Why is that?
This happens because you have narrowed your search
down too much. Try doing a search with only ONE speicification
first. Sometimes what happens is that the employer
did not specify when they were filling in the job
posting, and therefore, when you specify, you could
be missing that job opportinity because your search
is not including the employer that did not specify.
26. I don’t understand the section
where it asks for “position posted after”… I don’t understand
what’s that trying to ask for?
27. What order are the job listings
in?
The job listings are currently in the order of the
most recently posted. You can change this order if
you want - see Question #28.
28. How can I sort these job listings?
You can sort by Job Titles or by Company names. Simply
click on the column title at the top of the listings.
29. What does “Global” Job mean?
Global jobs are jobs that have been posted to other
institutions, not just for FIU students. Our Panther
JOBlink system is tied in with other Universities
as well, and sometimes an employer may post a job
at multiple institutions.
30. Why can’t I see all the job postings?
Possibly because you are not registered for Career
Success Services. Please see Questions 2 and 3 above
for more information.
31. How can I find jobs on FIU campus?
We are currently adding a page to our website that
will cover information about this. For now, you will
have to visit the Human Resources office to obtain
information on this. They are located in the PC building
- room 224 - or visit their website at http://www.fiujob.org
and click on "Search Postings".
Questions About On-Campus Interviews:
32. Where can I see which companies
are coming on campus?
To view Company presentations, log into the Panther
JOBlink system, click on "CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES"
and then click on "Company Presentations (Information
Sessions) ". OR from our homepage - click on
"Calendar
of Events".
To view upcoming on-campus company interviews,
you MUST be registered for Career Success Services
(See Question 1 above). Then log into the system and
click on "CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES" and then
" Search for On-Campus Interview Jobs ".

33. I went to look for on-campus
interviews and it keeps giving me an error saying that
I am not authorized for this. Why?
You have not been activated for Career Success Services.
If you have already paid and you get an error message,
please send an email to panther.link@fiu.edu for us
to activate you for Career Success Services. Otherwise,
please see Question #1 above for instructions about
registering for Career Success Services.
34. Do you have to pay money to
see on-campus jobs.... if not, where can I locate the
section with the jobs on-campus?
Jobs at FIU can be found though the Human Resources
office in PC 224. or visit the website at http://www.fiujobs.org/
and click on "Search Postings".
35. How do I submit my resume to
the firms (like the Grant Thornton job)? I thought
I did that already by uploading my resume and have it
on the resume book but apparently that wasn't enough.
What else do I need to do?
Once you upload your resume you MUST do a search
for jobs/internship and then submit your resume to
the specific company. Employers do NOT see your resume
just because it is in Panther JOBlink. You have to
submit your resume to the companies that you want
to.
36. I have been pre-selected for
an interview with “XYZ Company”. How do I sign
up?
You can only sign up for an interview between the sign
up dates -Even if the company has already contacted
you.
To find out what the sign up dates are: -
- log into the system to do a search for the company
- click on "CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES" and
then "Search for On-Campus Interview Jobs"
- then in the "keywords" field type the
name of the company.
- When the company search results appear, click on
the job title. Scroll to the middle of the page, and
you should be able to see when the interview sign
up dates are.
37. How can I delete interview appointment?
You must call our office at 305-348-2423 and speak
to someone to cancel the appointment. Failure to show
up for the interview without cancelling the interview
at least 2 business days BEFORE the interview will result
in loss of our services for 1 year.
38. How will I know if I have been
selected for an interview?
You should receive an email from either the company
or from the Panther JOBlink system.
- Otherwise, you can log into the system, click on
"CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES"
- Then click on "Application History / On Campus
Interview Status / Interview Sign Up".
- Under Current Status, the system will indicate if
you have been preselected or if your resume is still
under consideration.
39. I received an email from “XYZ
Company” telling me that I have been pre-selected for
an interview and I need to sign up for a time. However,
when I go into the system to sign up for a time, the
system won’t let me. What should I do?
- You will need to check the sign up times.
- Log into Panther JOBlink.
- Click on "CAREER SUCCESS SERVICES"
- Click on "Search for On-Campus Interview Jobs"
- In the keywords field type the name of the company.
OR if you have the Job ID, you can enter it in the
field provided.
- When the results appear, click on the position title.
- When the position details appear, in the middle
of the page there should be a box. Inside the box
it should indicate the dates of the sign up period.
- If the dates are in the future - YOU WILL NOT BE
ABLE TO SIGN UP FOR THE INTERVIEW UNTIL THE DATE ARRIVES!
- If the dates have already passed, it is too late
to sign up.
- If you are within those dates and you still cannot
sign up, please contact 305-348-2423.
40. I am trying to submit my resume
to “XYZ Company” and it says that I do not meet the
requirements, but I DO meet the requirements – what
should I do?
You will NOT be able to forward your resume through
the system if it says that you do not meet the requirements.
Please be sure to check all of the requirements to
be sure that you meet them - ESPECIALLY the graduation
date requirement. Many employers will stipulate when
they want their candidates to graduate.
If you honestly believe that you meet the requirements,
then we suggest that you search to see if the company
is coming on campus to do a presentation (see question
31). You will be able to meet with the recruiter there
and give him/her your resume.
