ELECTRONIC
CHECKING OF PREREQUISITES WILL BEGIN FOR FALL TERM 2007!
Please note that electronic checking of prerequisites for Biology
courses will only allow you to enroll in a particular lab when
you have either previously taken or are concurrently enrolled in
the corresponding Biology lecture, so you should register for
the lecture at the same time or before you register for the lab.
If your Biology course is “by permission of the instructor” only,
then you will continue to see your instructor to obtain a permission
number that will allow you to register for the course.
You may be blocked from enrolling in a Biology course and receive
a message from PantherSoft saying that you have not met the prerequisites
for the course. You should first check the prerequisites
for the course on the list of Biology courses with recent prerequisite
changes (that are not yet listed in the printed or online course
catalog) by clicking on the following link:
If you do not find your course in this list of prerequisite changes,
then please direct your browser to the online Undergraduate Course
Catalog to check the prerequisites for the Biology course by clicking
on the following link:
If you have met all the prerequisites for the Biology course,
but this is not recognized by PantherSoft, then students at University
Park should contact the Biology Undergraduate Advising Office (OE
246, tel 305-348-2302, e-mail diaza@fiu.edu );
students at the Biscayne Bay Campus should contact the BBC Biology
Office (Marine Science Bldg, MSB 350, tel 305-919-5602, e-mail hallv@fiu.edu ). Please
contact only one NOT both of these offices.
To expedite enrollment in cases in which PantherSoft does not
recognize prerequisites for the course, please bring copies of
your transcripts from FIU and/or from the college or university
from which you transferred courses that satisfy the prerequisites. For
transfer courses that satisfy the prerequisites, please also bring
a copy of the course description from the other university’s
course catalog and/or a copy of the course syllabus. If Biology
staff determine that you have met all the prerequisites for the
course, and space is available in the course, then it will be possible
for you to enroll.
The Biology staff will be pleased to help you, but please note
that they are unable to permit students to register if
- The course is “by permission of the instructor” only.
- The
student has not met all the prerequisites (with a grade of “C” or
better).
- The class is full.
- The course is not a Biology course. The Biology courses have
the following prefixes: BCH, BOT, BSC, MCB, OCB, PCB, and ZOO.
There will be no exceptions to these rules. Previously,
instructors could perform manual checks of prerequisites for students
enrolled in their courses and do an administrative drop of students
who did not satisfy the prerequisites. There has been no
change in policy and this process will now be handled electronically
by PantherSoft.
