Environmental Chemistry, Marine Biochemistry,
Chemical Toxicology/Pharmacology
Summary of my current research interests: Marine and freshwater algae are a rich source of toxic or otherwise biologically active compounds. As part of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, as well as the Marine Science Program at FIU, my research focuses on the identification, isolation and characterization of these bioactive compounds, particularly including those from the cyanobacteria (or "blue-green algae"), as they relate to both environmental health and biomedicine.
