23: Former Olympian Kongzheng "KZ" Li named as FIU’s first
intercollegiate diving coach
FIU’s fledgling
women’s swimming program took another major step forward with the
announcement that former Olympian Kongzheng “KZ” Li has agreed
to come on as the team’s first-ever diving coach. “I’ve
talked with coaches from around the country and they all agree that we
are very lucky to have someone like KZ on staff. I’m pleased that
the circumstances worked out where we were able to attract him here,”
said head coach Noemi Zaharia.

FlU's newest intercollegiate
sport, women's swimming, is set to begin its inaugural schedule next winter.
But under the watchful eye of head coach Noemi Zaharia, the Golden Panthers
are already well along in planning for their first season of NCAA Division
I competition.

director Rick Mello named former All-American and Olympic medal-winner
Noemi Zaharia as the school's women's swimming coach. FIU will
field its first-ever women's swimming team for competition in
the 2003-04 winter season. -More-
