of All-American guard Marcus Robinson
ead
men's basketball coach Donnie Marsh announced the signing
today of junior college transfer Marcus Robinson.
Robinson is a 6-foot, 175-pound guard from Mesa, Arizona. He played at
South Mountain Community College, where he led Division II in scoring, averaging
25.6 points per game.
Robinson was named third-team All-America for his efforts and first-team
All-ACCAC, being the league's top vote getter.
"Marcus is just what the doctor ordered for this team," said
FIU head coach Donnie Marsh. "He is a prolific scorer who excels in
the up-tempo game. He has the unique ability to make his teammates better
while at the same time keeping the defense honest with his scoring. He will
make an immediate impact in our program."
"Marcus is the best player we've ever coached at South Mountain,"
said Dan Nichols, head coach of South Mountain CC. "I
am so happy that he is going some place where he will enjoy the experience.
We wish him nothing but the best."
At Mesa High School, he was the leading scorer in the state at 24.6ppg
and set a single season scoring record. He was named to the all-state team
and was a McDonald's All-America nominee.
Robinson chose FIU over Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Dayton and Boise State. He
joins Kitus Witherspoon as the second juco player to transfer
to FIU this fall.
