2002: Appeared in 41 games, playing
mostly in left field and as the designated hitter…came on
late in the year, raising his batting average from .280 (4/27) to
.346 by season’s end…20 of his 37 base hits went for
extra bases…had the team’s highest regular-season batting
average of .750 (3-for-4) against Bethune-Cookman…ten multiple-hit
games, all but one coming after Apr. 27…banged out three hits,
scored three times and had three RBI vs. Middle Tennessee (5/18)…made
eight pinch-hit appearances with three hits (.375)…had a 46-percent
success rate in advancing runners…came up with three hits
the six times he batted with the bases loaded.
Prior to FIU: Transferred
from Miami-Dade CC where he helped lead the Sharks as state champions
in 2001 and to the National Championships in Colorado…named
second-team all-conference and to the all-tournament team at the
state championships…hit .350 with one home run, 18 doubles,
five triples and 40 RBI his sophomore campaign…four-year letter
winner at Miami Sunset for head coach Bill McClain…selected
All-Miami Dade honorable mention his senior and junior years…named
the team’s Offensive Player of the Year his senior year…hit
.385 with seven home runs and 30 RBI his senior year and .446 during
his junior year…recruited by St. Thomas, Siena, Cumberland,
UNLV and Palm Beach Atlantic.
