2002: Expected to be redshirted
as a freshman, but an injury to backup catcher Michael New forced
him into playing time…went 2-for-3 in his very first intercollegiate
game as a starter against Lafayette (3/27)…also had a starting
assignment vs. Western Kentucky (4/7), but was used primarily as
a late-inning defensive replacement…lone RBI of the season
came on a bases-loaded walk against Arkansas State (4/12).
Prior to FIU: Played
all four years for head coach Jose Novas at Coral Park High School…drafted
in the 46th round by Chicago White Sox in the 2001 Major League
Draft…played for the Marlins in the East Coast Professional
Showcase and for the Pirates at the Baseball America Area Code Games…recruited
by Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama and South Florida.
Personal: Enjoys
fishing…son of FIU baseball assistant coach Rolando Casanova…uncle
Humberto Acosta played baseball for University of Miami and the
Milwaukee Brewers…son of Rolando and Sylvia Casanova…born
May 6, 1983…Undecided major.
