Hi Kalai,
I am guessing that you and Giri
are back to routine. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed being in KL and
attending the meeting. Thanks for inviting me. Let me say something about the
meeting itself. It was very informative; I learnt a few things. Besides the
scientific content of the presentations, I noticed and realized that it was very
useful to the Asian students. They were interacting with others. If they come to
the States they are usually shy away, and are frequently intimidated by people.
Thanks to you and Chong Lek for
your extraordinary effort and hard work to make the meeting the way it was - a
grand success. Now about the entertainment part. I have never attended a meeting where attendees are
treated such lavishly. Coming back and eating turkey sandwich lunch helps me
appreciate the food there more. And so much of it.
On a personal note, I cannot tell
you what a good time I had with you and Giri. Being with you was ball. I got to
know you more and realized how nice friends I have. I am sure we will see again.
Hope the very next one in Cold Spring Harbor. Otherwise, we will arrange
something. Please give my best to Giri, and tell him that I will write to him
about his "search". And, Oh yes, the young lady, Damari's (with an
accent on i). I was overwhelmed with her energy and interest in science. I do
not know her email address. But you can tell her to visit us …….. anytime.
How is her camera? Ask her to
send me a sample picture. I want to know how good a camera (wo)man she is. We
got soaked in rain because she wanted to buy a camera.

Dear Chong Lek,
Thank you for your kind note. I
made it home without any problems. Kalai's suggestion to take Malaysia Airways
worked out great!
I really need to thank you and
Kalai for inviting me to ACT-VII and for organizing such a wonderful meeting. I
greatly enjoyed spending time with all my Asian colleagues and had a wonderful
visit to your beautiful country. My only regret is that I did not have time on
this visit to see more of Malaysia, so I hope to come back someday. Special
thanks for organizing the bus trip. It was a special day for me and one that
provided many fond memories.
Please advise any of your
students that may wish to study in the US someday that I would be happy to
advise them on applying and introduce their applications to program admissions
committees at Penn State and elsewhere.
I will be happy to write to your
sponsors and provide an independent evaluation of the merits of ACT-VII.
With warm regards,

Dear Kalai
Now that I am back in Oxford I
wanted to say how grateful I am for all your help and kindness at the meeting in
KL (and before), and to thank you for inviting me to speak there.
It was a delightful occasion, and I enjoyed the meeting both for its
scientific content and for the opportunity to get to know so many pleasant
people. I hope it will not be long
before we meet again.
With thanks and best wishes
